prezzi media evaluation

http://prezi.com/unyclfr7gyl5/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy

this is my media evaluation for my topic f creating a pop magazine. i have talked about the process of how i have used codes and conventions and how they have developed over time in my blog post to this very day to my final draft. within my blog it shows the development and research i have constructed which is presented in this evaluation. I have talked about the fist stages of my music magazine and how over time and knowledge it has improved.

drafting and planning- my coursework final draft

during a period of two weeks myself and other classmates waited for feedback from our teacher on how to improve our music magazines. The feedback i received was criticisms such as: making sure my contents page is better presented and making sure it looks professional. from this comment i used shapes to enclose the contents with white boxes to make the contents page look  more efficient and professional. i received other feedback from my teacher such as adding more cover lines, before hand i only had 3 cover lines which made the magazine look empty and not full of gossip therefore i included more secondary artists into the cover lines which enabled the front cover of "cosmic" to look full and eye appealing.

from my meeting with my teacher i received feed back to ensure that my media project was up to a high standard but needed improvements to ensure it looks like a real genre of pop. from within my music magazine i also needed t improve on silly errors such as grammar and spelling mistakes, therefore after my meeting i went back to my course work and added in and corrected my grammar and spelling throughout the magazine on both pages of the contents ad double page spread. this has enabled the magazine on a whole to be more professional because a published music magazine wouldn't have spelling errors and bad grammar therefore it was key to ensure that they were both correct.

another improvement of which i also thought needed improving as well as my teacher from his feedback was the front page as i thought from peer and self assessments that the front cover was too bland and didn't look full therefore not only did i add more cover lines i moved around the main cover line and the sky line which enabled the magazine to look not so bland and messy. the positioning of the text now has improved and therefore the structure of the front cover is more professional and realistic to a pop magazine.

drafting and planning

this is how i plan to set out my double page spread. my double page spread will consist of questions which have already been asked in an interview between my cover star James Owen and a interviewer. the questions asked have been recently brought up in news about James Owen and the public/ fans want to know more about what he has been doing ect therefore the questions asked by the interviewer have been selected as the most popular by his fans. This suggests that his fans are very keen on him and want to know everything about his life style.

i have set out this double page spread like this because i want the text of the interview to go around the main image of my star as i would like the information to highlight how significant he is and that all the information is based on him and him only. the information presented will be in depth of how he feels as i would like the information to be accurate so that his fans will be able to fantasise about him. i am planning to write my article to ensure that what i speak about in his interview is correct because one wrong comment could lose him hundreds if not thousands of fans, this could happen if i insulted something or someone. i am planing to ensure all of this is accurate information because i want the genre of pop to stand out therefore i wouldn't want any false non realstic information on the double page spread.

drafting and planning

i have looked into a pop magazine again because on top of all the feedback i received from peers i am looking at how i could improve my front cover. i am especially looking at the structure and the layout of this magazine because when producing my final draft for my magazine i wish it to not look empty and full of information, cover lines main cover line, puff, pug and sky line ect. i would like my magazine to look full and bursting with information therefore i am looking into techniques and ways to grab the readers/ target audiences attention.

i continue to look for similar ways that i could be inspired through pop magazines. i will use this magazine to my advantage because i like the way the cover lines are set out and also the colour scheme, i am influenced by this and hope to replicate something similar to this in my magazine because it is eye catching and colourful which means that this magazine is suitable for the genre of pop because alot of young people in the world have a bright imagination an not a dark one therefore the magazine isn't covered with black and dark colours

I have chosen the photography for my secondary artists very carefully, as I believe that each photograph captures the style I am aiming to create for each of them.

The top artist appears to be quite confident and cool, as she is making direct eye contact with the reader which shows that she is not afraid to make a personal connection, whilst her hand is on her hip which is a stance often associated with those who are fearless.

The second photograph shows my two artists laughing together, which conveys the happy and positive tone of the pop genre, whilst showing the unity between these two artists.

The bottom three photographs also conform to the conventions of the pop genre, as the three artists all appear to be dressed fashionably and according to modern trends which many pop stars are.

research into similar products

here i have looked into katy perry and her front cover page. i wnted to refresh my self about what my front cover is going to look like, i am still currently looking back into my first draft. http://snoweasmedia.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/drafting-and-planning-first-draft.html, i am looking at the feedback that i received from this and i am trying to think of new whys in which i can attempt this front cover page. i am greatly inspired by this front cover page and when creating my final front cover page i hope to use similar ideas in my own way and re create a similar look.

drafting and planning- song for secondary artists

for my secondary artists i have created 3 songs each in which they have written them self as artist. I have created this songs on my own as i wanted them to be unique and the songs to be original. these songs i have picked particularity because i didn't want the song to sound rock or any other genre therefore i have decided to create them my self so that i know that they are not only original but also that they sound like pop songs.

organisation- secondary artist names

Here in this blog i will be talking about the names of my secondary artists.

Finn- Shawn Bee
Abi- Lola lay
Benita and Abi- Kaylie Ivy and Louise Barlow- known as the 'Memory'
James- Zac Hawks
Jono- Peter Mize

These names have been chosen carefully because i wanted the right image of look to come out, i didn't want to give the secondary artists names which sounded similar to indi pop or indi rock names.  have come up with these names on my own therefore they are not existing celebrity names. i have given these names to particular secondary artists because with their profile for each star it will represent who they are and the attitude they give.  i will be using these artists names fromm now on and will be referring back to them every time i mention them.

organisation- photography

Here is the photo shoot of my secondary artists.
out of these images i will be choosing only a few out of the many for my magazine double page spread and contents page. I gave my secondary artists a specific style so that they looked as if they were in the pop industry. i received feedback on a previous post from peers in class explaining that my style looked more indi than pop therefore i chose more specific clothing for certain individuals to wear> http://snoweasmedia.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/drafting-and-planning-first-draft.html here was my first draft and the fed back i received  was based on this particular look. i am going to refer back to a previous post which i said i would as i planned to show that i planed this photo shoot.http://snoweasmedia.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/organisation-secondary-photo-shoot.html. although in the next blog post after this above i talked about the attitude i wanted my secondary artists to give ie angry, happy, emotional ect. http://snoweasmedia.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/organisation_24.html

i aksed my friend Jono to wear a jacket with a scarf with ear phones. i asked him to do this because it looked like a song writer and a professional singer. i used the prop of mise-en-scene (earphones) to show the target audience that they can also look and have items in which the starts have also, this allows the prop to be a huge tool because alot of fans may want to buy an exact pair and look like him.  I wanted this look because he looks smart but also gives off a swagger which i wanted to portray because i wanted him to be the cool kid which a lot of young teens and kids look up to. i gave him this look because not only will this promote pop music it will inspire and want kids to do well, dress like him and be like him. i asked Jono here to use such facial expressions to suggest he was angry, therefore i asked him to drop his eyebrows and give quite a sinister serious look, i also allowed this look to come across because he looks right into the camera which suggests he wants to connect with his target audience. i also asked him to do a happy photo so that i could have a variety of photographs to choose from. i asked Jono to look into the distance and smile, this allowed his look to imply he was happy about something which he has accomplished or has done recently, i asked him to look into the distance which allowed us to think he is keeping it a secret. I also asked Jono to look straight into the camera and smile which allows us to think he is really happy which is what a lot of pop artists look like. this also allows Jono to create a relationship between himself and the audience.

My friend James was the next secondary artist in which i asked to star in my magazine. i gave him a specific look which was just a polo shirt, i didn't want to put a lot of cloths on this star because i believe it wasn't need and wasn't necessary, i wanted him to stand out not only because of his blue polo but i knew his hair would stand out and allow him to make a statement. i asked him to have his hair in different styles; i asked him first to have it down and messy which i believe was such a awesome look as it gave off such a attitude look that he looked like Justin Bieber, this is what i wanted to portray as i have looked into him in the past on my blog. i wanted him to use different facial expressions such as happy smiling and serious pout face. i wanted these two facial expressions because i wanted him to be different but also similar to pop artists of today. i asked James in the second photography to wear a jacket chosen out because i thought it would give him a different vibe and look, i believe my self that he looks very different compared to him in the blue polo; he looks as if he has more of an attitude that he doesn't care, with this when i make my secondary artist profiles i could relate to this and say that he is a moody artist and he has a bit of an attitude problem.

My next secondary artist is Abi, i have given her a specific look and style in which a lot of female artists look like today, examples of similar artists today are Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift. i asked her to wear this specific out fit because i wanted her wear a skirt with a black top as i believe she looks as if she would light up an audience with her songs and really get them on their feet, she gives off a vibe in this photo shoot that she is very sassy, i wanted her to look like this because i told her to pout and look right into the camera, this will allow me to write about her deeply in her profile as i can say that she has had a bad time and has changed her habits and seems to be a completely different person. i asked her to use elements of her body to also suggest she was sassy with the photographer by asking her to put her hands on her hips as this suggests she was fed up and wanted it to be over which implies she could potentially be a rude artist or just going through a rough time. i wanted her to look like one of the members of Fith Harmony.

My  next secondary artist i will be talking about is my friends Benita and Abi these two stars are a double act. i have asked them both to wear specific clothing to look as if they look like a pair. these two female artists look as if they very very fun and would bring a crowd to their feet, they also look like everyone loves them as they just give off such a positive happy cheerful vibe. i asked them both to look extremely happy as if they both heard the best joke ever. this allowed them to look extremely happy therefore they are my happy artists. i asked these two artists to become very close because i wanted to show the audience how close people get in the music business. i really like the second photo because it hows how close they are as artists and that it isn't all serious they are also normal people like me and you.

The final secondary artist in which i took my photography of was my friend Finn.He is wearing specific clothing in which i asked him to wear. I wanted him to wear a white t shirt with a green jacket on and so this I presented in this photography. i asked my friend Finn here to pull different facial expressions. My secondary star here is the most happy out of the secondary artists because i planned to make him seem cheerful and extremely happy because this is what pop music and artists are themed on as they mostly always seem happy with everything. therefore i asked Finn to smile with teeth and look straight into the camera, this also creates a relationship with the secondary star and the target audience as he tries to show his happy story through his smile and facial expressions. i will be using a mixture of these images for my contents and double page spread as the photography i believe is the best quality and photography which suits the genre of the magazine will be chosen.

organisation- re draft of final contents

here i have re created my contents page. my first draft of my contents page was not up to my  expectations and standard therefore  i decided to re create a contents page. in my last contents page i believe it wasn't professional or suitable for the genre of pop, whereas this new contents page  is more appropriate for the genre of pop and it is more suitable for the target audience. the images of the manikins will be replaced with my secondary artists so that the magazine contents page looks realistic and appropriate. The random text in this contents page is going to be replaced by page number and the latest gossip preview this will allow the reader to see what gossip and information they are looking for and the page at which it is located. i have chosen the words Contents is in yellow for the reason i wanted my contents page to be colorful and vibrant, i wanted this because this is what i believe pop music is linked to as they are not a dark and heavy metal industry.

research into similar products: double page spread

here i have looked at a double page spread as i wasn't that happy with my draft double page spread. i received feedback from my peers and they helped me think of how i could improve my double page spread, i am currently still working on my double page spread and it is still in draft, i am improving it so that it looks more professional. i would like my double page spread to look like this because i believe  this looks alot more efficient and professional, i like this because there isn't  too much information and it is clear who the star is. in my draft double page spread there was too much information in my eyes and i would like to improve on this feedback and re design a double page spread this is why i have looked into this. i hope to set out a similar double page spread because i am greatly influenced by this and has allowed me to re think of what my next potential double page spread could look like.

organisation

i want  my secondary artists to have a type of attitude which will draw the readers attention. i want them to look happy or serious. i have chosen this kind of look for them to show because i believe that if we look at a magazine today we look  for the gossip and see if anything serious or bad has happened to celebrities therefore i will try and recreate this through their style and facial expressions. on my photo shoot for my secondary artists i will be guiding them to pull certain faces and poses, this is because i want the audience to think what is wrong with him or wow he/she is really happy i wonder why?... by creating this photo shoot i will be experimenting with how my artists will look and how they will be presented. i will make sure that the secondary artists starred will be explosively interesting as i have aloready started a draft of what their back grounds and lives are like therefore the audinece will see the whole picture and message of certain secondary artists.

organisation- secondary photo shoot

i am planning on creating a photo shoot for my secondary artists. i have chosen specific clothing which i believe is appropriate for the pop genre. in my previous first draft i received feedback from peers that my clothing looks more like  indi pop which is not what i am looking into, although there is not massive difference between them, i would like to be strict against my self and make sure the outfits for the photography are perfect. i am planning on doing this photo shoot on the 29th of January.  this photography will include both females and males as i wold like to show the target audience that any one can make it if you believe. i am trying to show how pop artists would look and act, this is shown through the photography because a angry face would suggest something bad has happened to this celebrity and a happy face suggests something really really good has happened.

organisation- featured artists

in this post i will be talking about the names of my featured stars. i will be thinking deeply into what potential names i could give them which would suit the pop magazine genre. i need to pick out names carefully because i would need names that suit a pop genre, i hope to not mistake these names into a pop indi or rock, therefore  need to use various names to choose from, i will be referring to this post in a future one because i will want to evidence that i said i would experiment with names.

organisation- star name

i would like to changed the name of my cover star instead of just Coyne. i have took into account that i am creating a pop magazine but i have chosen a name to show you that i am sticking to this genre instead of indi rock. One of the names were C-Gul, i chose this name because i wanted to show you out of he selection i have chosen the one most suitable to my genre of pop. the names that i have experimented with are:
Shane Rohr
C-Gul
James owen
penny coyne
carton cook
out of these names i really like the James Owen name because it is original and sounds like someone within the pop industry compared to the other option that i suggested. this is the name i will be giving my cover star as it will  be more appropriate and suitable o fit my genre of pop music. this name also allows us to think that this celebrity is normal, which i want to come across which allows me to say and promotes to all his fans that if a normal guy like him can make it then why carnt you.

organisation

after reviewing my double page spread i did not like how it was set out. after careful thinking i believe that i could improve this for the next time i create a double page spread. the layout could be be better and more organised, i feel like there is too much info and too much in this page.
here i have looked into a Jessie j double page spread this is what  could experiment with by butting the information into isles so that it looks well presented and suitable to the target audience. this type of double page spread i also like because the main image on the left looks like it is coming out at you therefore creating a eye catching image.

organisation- draft feedback

Here i have made a few improvements that i revived from a peer assessment from friends. For first i changed the mast head as his font is more appropriate to the pop genre, although this picture is blurry this was just a rough example of what mast head would suit best. i wil be using this font (Plakette 5 SF) i hjave chosenthis because it looks more t do with the pop genre rather than the last mast in in my previous post for my first draft. http://snoweasmedia.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/drafting-and-planning-first-draft.html. i have also moved around the cover lines as i believe they look more professional and suitable for a pop magazine.

drafting and planning- first draft

Although this is my first draft i know there is room for improvement and there are things i will need to improve to make sure my final magazine is attractive and professional. i looked into similar loking content pages located in similar posts, this http://snoweasmedia.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/organisation-content-page.html this has helped me organise what my magazine contents page could look like. Here i have created a contents page, in which i have used my images from my photography from the 7th of January http://snoweasmedia.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/photography.html. i have used a 'cosmic' background as used the image of space because I believe it looks very appealing and eye catching, this was also used because i wanted bright and illuminating colours that would grab the reader attention, the different colours used such as green, white, purple, blue, red ,pink and turquoise from this image of space has allowed me to experiment and show that my contents page will be colourful as i am relating this to pop on a whole, i am relating this to pop because the pop industry is not a very dark place, it is colourful and vibrant and the music they present is very much given off as positive vibes, therefore i use the different vibrant colours to relate to pop music. I have organised where i would like my contents to be and to tell the audience what pages to go to. the images chosen are very specific because i wanted him to look natural therefore i have chosen 2/3 smiling pictures this is what a typical pose of pop artists use, i have chosen a serious picture in the top right because i wanted the audeocne to be drawn in to think why is he looking so long-faced? is there something wrong? all these questions bring attention as he gives off another vibe that he wants to focus on re-establishing himself. i would like to relate this single image out of the three to Justin Bieber as he gives a similar vibe in his attitude and photo shoots.
for the front cover page i have used the image from the photo shoot, i have chosen this specific image because it has shown clear direct address which creates a relationship between star and target audience. i used the prop of the earphones to relate to my target audience because alot of teens carry round ear phones. my double page spread i have created to inform the reader about the star which will be used in my final magazine double page spread.

photography

here I have took photography of my friend Callum. I have allowed my photo shoot to be different because I have allowed my model to change costumes a few times in different locations. in this photography I have used different elements of the camera such as a extreme close up, close up, high angle, low angle and long shot, i have used these different elements so that i have a range of photos. this will allow me to choose the perfect 3 images for my magazine front cover and contents pages. the images were located in front of graffiti and in a forest jus like i said in my previous posts.http://snoweasmedia.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/organization.html. I am very happy with the outcome of my photography as i have now experimented with how i would like my final cover star model to look. I also asked my star here Callum to pull such facial expressions such as serious, happy and  looking out into the distance. the props used in this photo shoot was a phone and headphones. I selected these two props for mise-en-scene because the society we live in today is surrounded by phones, music and technology, therefore I picked these two items because they link well together. this will hopefully relate to all teens out in the world because as i have learned been a teenager so far we always carry around headphones with us in case we want to listen to music. I picked a specific location for this graffiti because these colours are bright and this is how i wanted my house colours to be bright, due to my theme of my magazine being pop my idea was to have colourful and vibrant colours that would reflect the pop industry. I also told my star Callum to look straight into the camera because I wanted the star to create a relationship between the star and the reader. I am over all happy with my photography as I have shown exactly what I planned out and more.

organisation

these two props here i am planning to bring with me to my next photo shoot wit my model. i have chosen these two specific props because they link with the society of today. we all use these items on a day to day basis, therefore I use them to relate to the reader and hopefully they will understand and connect with the idea that celebrities use them as well as normal people like me and you. Another reason to why i chose these two props is because these two props can also publicise a product because if your favourite celebrity has one of these props their fans may want one exactly similar because their idol is wearing them.

Research into font: feedback

Here i have asked my friends on a media site called Face book about what types of font they think in their opinion as teenagers. i have chosen my friends because they are all teens and therefore the best feedback i revived is from them because this is what my pop magazine target audience is aimed at. Five of  my friends said they proffered number 5 as a magazine title. only One of my friends said the liked number 6. One out of nine said they liked number 8, and 2 Two people said they preferred and liked number 7. My friends have also said why they like the font and why it would be appropriate.

drafting and planning- mast head ideas

Here i have looked at different fonts to which my magazine title could be. I have chosen these font because I believe all are professional and would work with a pop music magazine front cover. I announced the name of my magazine title would be called cosmic in a previous post.http://snoweasmedia.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/drafting-and-planning-final-title-of.html i will be asking people to fill in a questionnaire to find out which cosmic title is mist suitable to a pop magazine front cover. this will allow me to create my judgement on which front to use.

drafting and planning- final Title of Magazine

The title of the magazine will be called:
I have finally decided what i would like my title for my magazine to be. i have chosen this name because i believe it ha alot to do with imagination and thought which is also put into music, this is one of the key aspects to why i have chosen this name for my magazine. Cosmic is naturally related to space and what else is up there among all the stars. The cosmic word i would also like to relate to the t shirts and style that te youth of today wear. i could also use a t shirt with space colours on such as this to relate to the title:
I really believe that this is a suitable name for a pop music magazine pop because it is new and funky I also think that many young teens will take interest because i believe my self that this word stands out and draws our attention. therefore i believe this will create a suitable title because I want the audience to relate and understand why I have chosen this. i will also be able to experiment with this word and use it to experiment with house colours and what specific colours i could use such as: light green, blue, orange, black, purple and red. this would wok very well with my theme of pop because I need my magazine front cover to be colourful and vibrant so that it stands out to the target audience.

organisation: photo shoot and mise-en-scene

Here i have had a photo shoot of my self and looked at what clothes my possible male future model will look like. I have picked out these specific pieces of items because i believe they look like something a pop artists would wear. pop music is targeted at teens therefore i tried to relate this through the style and look in these clothes. i have chosen certain logos that are widely recognised such as Vans and Hollister, i chose these logos because they are stylish and fresh in the clothing business alot of young people today wear items with the names of these stores on them. i have tried to aim this photo shoot at teens, i have aslo used different effects which i said i would in a previous post.http://snoweasmedia.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/organisation-potential-clothes-photo.html My original ideas and research into effects were located in a different blog earlier than this one and i had my inspiration form different images and i said that i would experiment with effect in future photo shoots and so i have.
